Reflections and Plans for Growth
The APPLE Center for Sustainable Living opened its doors a year ago at 412 Commercial Street, with the plan that by providing a physical hub for the sustainability movement, community efforts in sustainability would become more coordinated, more integrated and more widespread in Nevada County.
One-Year Anniversary Party – October 24th 11am – 5pm:
The APPLE Center will host a 1-year anniversary party from 11am-5pm. The day’s schedule is filled with inspirational speakers, delicious soup lunch, fun raffle prizes, educational demonstrations, entertainment and new member specials. This event is free to attend and enter the Awesome Apple Pie contest. Lunch is available from 12:30-1:30 ($7 donation to Living Lands Agrarian Network). Raffle tickets can be purchased starting October 10th, 1 for $2 or 3 for $5, proceeds to benefit the APPLE Center’s educational programs.

1:30 Activism for a Sustainable Nevada County, panelists include Sally Harris, Nevada City Council, Gary Tintle, Contractor and Nevada City Chamber board member, and Kim Musillani, mom and activist.

2:30 Inspirational Stories of Sustainable Living, panelists include Ragnar Hynell, Nevada City resident and Trish Meyler, south county resident.

4:00 Awesome Apple Pie Contest, judges include Robert Bergman, Nevada City Mayor; Terry Lamphier, Nevada County Board of Supervisors elect, and Yolanda Cookson, Grass Valley Council.

To enter the Awesome Apple Pie contest, see www.applecenter.org for entry guidelines. Winners will be chosen in 4 categories plus an overall winner.
Next tuesday, the Grass Valley City Council will be discussing changing their domestic animal ordinance to allow urban chickens. Please come to the meeting to express your support or concerns about such ordinance. The meeting starts at 7pm at Grass Valley City Hall. Tuesday the 10th of August.
