Building Science: Stop Air Leaks

Most air leaks occur at ceiling-wall and wall-floor joints. Air moves constantly between the attics and crawl spaces of your home, filtering through the fiberglass insulation of your walls and into your living space. This air is not only unhealthy, it degrades the ability of your equipment to control air temperature and comfort.

Your building performance contractor can find air leaks by using an infrared camera while running a blower door test.

Air leaks are fixed by filling foam insulation in the cracks and joints of the framing structure.
